Aberdyfi Community Projects Ltd.
Prosiectau Cymunedol Aberdyfi Cyf.

We set out to make sure the building that houses the Post Office and Penrhos Garage didn't fall into the hands of property developers which would almost certainly have resulted in loss of both businesses.  The Post Office in particular is probably the most important business in the village, not only for its postal services but also as a banking hub and general store.

With the help of The Shared Prosperity Fund, Gwynedd Council, Cwmpas and numerous other people who worked or volunteered their time, and with financial help from The Wales Council For Voluntary Action (WCVA) we were able to raise enough money to buy the building and undertake essential repairs so it could stay as an asset in the village.

Aberdyfi Community Projects Limited was set up to do exactly this kind of thing, to provide employment, housing and keep local services that the people of Aberdyfi and visitors can make use of.  It is early days but if we got our maths right, we should be able to take enough income to repay the loans and maintain the building. Some funds are set aside to adapt the middle unit that is currently empty so it can be put back into use (see the 'Business Enquiries' page).  If all goes according to plan and initial costs are covered, we can start looking at other projects in Aberdyfi.

That's where we would like to hear from you. It won't happen for a while but if you know of some other worthwhile projects that provide employment, housing or generally benefit the vlllage, please let us know through the Contacts form so we can investigate and evaluate.
